Last BPCIS Update for 2024 and Report for the past year and talk by Timothy Weerasekera on AI: Its Impacts & Opportunities

Our last update  for the year is here. Forty presbyters (pastors and elders) and observers attended the sixth APM (Annual Presbytery Meeting). Though BPCIS (Bible-Presbyterian Church in Singapore) was inaugurated in 2011, it was registered with the Singapore Registrar of Societies six years ago, hence our 6th APM.

We Bible-Presbyterians have laid low for a while. We did things we are not proud of. Like breaking up when we could not get along. But after 30 years, we are coming together again, learning from past mistakes, recovering what was once our good heritage. “Speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15) is our commitment. God helping us, we seek to be faithful in proclaiming truth and demonstrating love.

About Us

The Bible-Presbyterian Church in Singapore

We are presently 11 member churches, working together with other observer churches, to devote ourselves to prayer, build bridges and strengthen our churches for the next generations. Though Bible-Presbyterian churches in Singapore have been around for 70 years, we believe our gracious God is giving us the opportunity to start again.

Devoting to Prayer

In November last year we began our monthly zoom prayer, every third Wednesday at 3pm-3.30pm. BPCIS pastors will bring needs of our churches and pray for one another. Our Good Friday Service on 15 April will focus on the Gethsemane Prayer of Jesus, “…not my will, but yours, be done….” (Luke‬ ‭22:42‬ ) with guest speaker Pastor Ivan Chow of Bethesda Bukit Arang. A series of devotions on that theme will be featured on our Website leading to Good Friday.

Building Bridges

In our last Update, we announce the happy news that Grace BP Church joined BPCIS as our 9th member church. God willing, another BP church will join soon as 10th church. We will continue to build bridges to BP churches which are not part of a Presbytery yet. In this regard, we are glad to hear of a second Presbytery being formed with Life, New Life, Calvary-Jurong and Sharon BP Churches. We call on all BP churches to prayerfully consider being part of a Presbytery if they call themselves Presbyterian.

Strengthening our Churches

This will be the theme of our Pastors & Leaders Retreat this year, held 4-5 July, at Changi Cove. Pastor Denesh Divyanathan of The Crossing Church will be our speaker. As part of our bridge-building, we will be extending invitation to churches not part of BPCIS. God continues to strengthen our churches through the ordination of men to the ministry. Three are now on ordination tracks: Paul Yeo and Ng Zhiwen (Zion Bishan) and Elder David Leong (Emmanuel).

Good Friday Monologues

What Hope Is There In Jesus Crucified?

Jesus is dead. Seven individuals who had witnessed his life - and death - find themselves grappling with what they had encountered.

Produced in 2021 for Mt Carmel’s online Maundy Thursday service, the monologues draw us into the thoughts and emotions of Judas, Peter, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of Jesus, Pilate, Nicodemus and the Roman centurion in the aftermath of the crucifixion. None of them had any inkling what was to happen on the third day; that out of the depths of despair, what hope would be in Jesus crucified!
